Rob Lewis

Born in London, Rob took up the cello at the age of 6 and the guitar at the age of 13.  He studied music at Sussex University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  He has attended masterclasses around the world with Bernard Greenhouse, Raphael Wallfisch, Karine Georgian, Selma Gokcen and Emanuel Gruber.

After graduating, he formed the band Two Spot Gobi for which he wrote and produced a lot of the music.  The band’s success took them far and wide, opening for huge artists such as Jason Mraz, Newton Faulkner, Bruno Mars and across the US and Europe, as well as high profile events including the official after-show for the Oscars in 2009.

Alongside performing and arranging, Rob also composes for TV and film.  His music has been used for Google, VICE and Barnes & Noble USA, as well as national TV ads for San Miguel, Land O Lakes, Premier Inn, Wilkinson Sword, McCafe, Which? and lots more.

As a session musician and string arranger Rob has had the privilege of playing or collaborating with Noel Gallagher, SBTRKT, Muse, Jason Mraz, Mary J Blige, Professor Green, Ledra Chapman, Life in Film, Mel C, Mark Owen, Labrynth, and many more.  He also plays with the Heritage Orchestra.  He frequently collaborates and performs with beatboxer Beardyman as part of his ‘Dream Team’ band.

Rob just released the iOS app SmartScales – designed to make learning scales and arpeggios fun and interactive for young musicians.  The app was featured as ‘Best New App’ by Apple.

Rob is also CEO of Richer Unsigned, a not-for-profit set up by Julian Richer (Richer Sounds) aimed at championing new music.
